Columbia, SC – April 12, 2021 – The Richland County Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) has put into effect an improvement program for businesses on Broad River Road. The Commercial Façade Improvement Program (CFIP) provides funding of up to $15,000 per activity for business owners to improve the exterior appearances of their property including buildings, storefronts, and signage. According to a release from the County, the program is designed to retain and attract businesses, strengthen the commercial corridor, increase utilization of existing buildings, restore economic vitality, and enhance property values.

The County is providing a one-time maximum for $15,000 per improvement for property owners and tenants. Eligible improvements include: exterior signs, paintings, parking lot resurfacing, lighting and security upgrades or installations, and general façade work. These projects do not require a funding match; the County will provide 100% of possible funds, according to the release.

Businesses fronting the 2200-3100 block of Broad River Road are eligible for this program and applicants must be either an owner or tenant of a commercial, retail, or professional business/property with a current structure. Owners may receive funding for more than one business location upon completion of separate applications. Applications opened on April 12, 2021 and will continue to be reviewed until May 25 or until funding has been expended.
